Weka Walks and Mt Huia Farmstay – Hodd Cottage

Weka Walks offers a total nature package combining walking experience, accommodation, home-cooked cuisine and warm Kiwi hospitality. The Walks are over Mt Huia Farm and Glen Tui Farm and include areas of pastureland and native bush. The major difference of this walk from most of the boutique New Zealand walks is that you stay in the same comfortable accommodation each night without the need to relocate. Single party bookings mean you can make up your own group and enjoy the full use of Hodd Cottage. Groups of up to 8 (depending on “couple configuration”) can be accommodated at Hodd Cottage.

We have an interesting variety of marked hiking trails offering a range of challenges and choices, with remarkable views across hill country farm land to native forests, sheer sandstone cliffs, mountains and rivers. Comprehensive written track guides are provided, including flora identification sheets.

Mt Huia Farmstay offers you the opportunity to experience a real New Zealand hill country sheep and cattle farm while staying in your choice of quality accommodation; either a cosy self-contained cottage (Hodd Cottage) or in our homestead with hosted bed and breakfast (Homestead B&B). This is the ultimate escape whether you are after a family farm holiday, a quiet break in the countryside or a stopover on your cycle tour. Our peaceful New Zealand country environment is only 10 minutes from State Highway 1; there is plenty to get involved with on the farm plus we are on two designated cycle routes (Cycle Stays), close to unique golf courses and the majestic Rangitikei River for fishing and water activities. Mt Huia Farmstay is a special experience for you because; • We are a 350 hectare (865 acre) working farm with 2200 Romney sheep and 300 pure Angus cattle, plus small herds of wild Fallow deer • You are able to join in with the day-to-day farm activities (kids particularly love this!), learning about all the facets of New Zealand farming as you go • There is private access to a safe river for swimming and exploring • It is centrally located in the lower North Island between Wellington and Rotorua, and only 10 minutes from SH1 • The Rangitikei region is a renown location for fishing, kayaking, white water rafting, golf and cycling • You have a choice of self-contained Hodd Cottage, or bed and breakfast rooms with ensuites in our homestead • You can choose to self-cater or enjoy Virginia’s delicious catered meals; and there’s a popular country café at nearby Mangaweka village • We are nestled amongst pockets of native bush full of bird song, and on clear nights the skies are full of stars visible to the naked eye • Our spacious lawns and well maintained attractive gardens provide a lovely place to rest and relax The farm has been owned and run by Neil and Virginia Travers since 1983; we look forward to welcoming you to Mt Huia Farmstay.
