Historic Shearing Quarters B&B

Situated 12kms from SH1, on a working farm in the beautiful Kawhatau Valley. Built in 1904, the Quarters have matai floors, toungue & groove and rough sawn rimu walls, original big bath, kitchen table and coal range (wood supplied). A new wing has a shower, fully equipped kitchen, electric range, fridge-freezer, microwave and 4m long rimu table. Historic photos, books and local tourist information displayed. A re-located, scrub-cutters hut provides added accommodation. A barbeque is available. The quarters are the starting point for the Kawhatau Valley Walk, a 2 – 3 day farm walk taking advantage of beautiful local scenery. Local roads suitable for cycling and good trout fishing in well known local rivers. Shearers Quarters are on a working farm, please observe all safety precautions.

The Historic Shearers Quarter’s not only provides unique rural accommodation but also is the base for the Kawhatau Valley Walks, Classic Car Adventures, and Self guided Horse trekking and Mountain Biking.
We have the option of being fully catered and will tailor meals to your requirements. This is a great base also for fishing some of our spectacular rivers.
